Bullying is unwanted, aggressive behavior among school aged children that involves a real or perceived power imbalance. The behavior is repeated, or has the potential to be repeated, over time. Both kids who are bullied and who bully others may have serious, lasting problems.
Well according to researches conducted. There is 3 types of bullying, first one is Verbal Bullying which is saying or writing mean things. Verbal bullying includes, teasing, name-calling, inappropriate sexual comments, taunting, and threatening to cause harm.
Second one is Social Bullying and it is sometimes referred to as relational bullying, involves someones reputation or relationships. Social bullying includes, leaving someone out on purpose, telling other children not to be friends with someone, spreading rumors about someone, and embarrassing someone in public.
And lastly there is Physical Bullying and it involves hurting a person’s body or possessions. Physical bullying includes, hitting/kicking/pinching, spitting, tripping/pushing, taking or breaking someone's things, and making rude or mean hand gestures.
Why do children bully? Students that are bullied at home commonly become the school bullies. They take out their rage on smaller or weaker children in order to give themselves power since they are powerless at home. Another reason a student may bully another is self-protection. Sometimes a child will participate in belittling another person to prevent the bully from picking on them; they divert the attention to another and become part of the power rather than be victimized.
If you condone bullying in any way, shape or form, you are taking part in it. Bullying is everyone’s responsibility and the option of doing nothing is unacceptable in civilized society. Some people may consider mocking someone funny, even though it is anything but funny to the victim. Small jabs taken every day can add up to a lot of pain and suffering. While it may seem innocent to the person taking the shots, the cumulative effect of these daily jabs could be devastating. In addition to that, as the pain increases, each jab cuts a little deeper.
Bullying can happen in school, so it is the responsibility of students to protect their classmates and to show everyone the dignity and respect they would like to be treated with. The first line of defense in bullying is in student’s own behavior. But when that fails, it must be brought to the attention of someone in authority, like a teacher. The concept of someone in authority failing to address the problem is simply not acceptable. This is why you must speak to a teacher you trust and know will do something to stop the bullying.
