Ang Tatay mong Kalbo

                                                              "Absurd Plays"

This is a type of play that is basically defined as meaningless, repetitive, and it also comes with  confusing dialogues. The very first play that I have seen in the Absurd category was "Ang Tatay mong Kalbo" translated by Isagani Cruz. Originally known as "The Bald Suprano".

The play was about an hour and thirty minutes long and it consists of laughter, drama, and giggles all the at the same time. I personally find the Absurd category as a not so interesting type of play.. The play started off with the 2 main characters which was Mr. and Mrs. Santos and all they talked about was complete nonsense that even them won't understand. At the later part of the play came along 2 guests in their home which was Mr. and Mrs. Reyes that apparently does not have an idea that the both of them were married. I think they were representing an old couple who were struggling with memory loss.

There was also Maria, the housemaid of Mr. and Mrs. Santos who was a blunt maid to the Reyes couple. And Hepe the fireman that seems to be a very good friend of the two couples who happens to be having an affair with Maria.

I was entertained in a sense that the actors and actresses know how make a fool of themselves but I think Absurd plays is just not my cup of tee. It made me anxious and left me curious the whole play. I did not like the idea that I exerted time and effort to something I will never understand.

Kudos to the actors for doing a very good job in doing what they have to do they still put on a hilarious show!

Shinichi & Migi

                                                                   PARASYTE

The movie is about a young teenager named Izumi Shinichi that lives with his mother in a quiet neighborhood somewhere in the Japan. One night, worm-like aliens invaded earth. Taking over the brains of the human hosts by entering through their ears or noses. One Parasyte attempts to enter Shinichi's ear while he sleeps but the Parasyte failed because he is sleeping with his headphones on, and enters his body by burrowing through his arm instead, taking over his right hand. And the Parasyte named himself Migi.

Since Shinichi was able to prevent Migi from taking over his brain, both beings retain their separate intellect and personality. As the duo encounter other Parasytes, they capitalize on their strange situation and gradually form a strong bond, working together to survive. This gives them an edge battling other Parasytes who frequently attack the pair upon realization that Shinichi's brain is still intact.

Shinichi feels compelled to fight other Parasytes, who devour humans as food, while enlisting Migi's help.

As non Manga reader I find the idea of the movie was very original and it was detailed very well. And I also liked the idea that they stated in the movie that a part 2 was coming up because, for me it really needs to have a second part because of the outstanding storyline of the film. All in all I give the movie 10 points, and I'm looking forward to seeing sa sequel very soon.

Anti-Smoking Campaign

"Smoking. Worst decision of my life."

As a child growing up. I was normally surrounded by smokers with in the family. I thought it was normal, because everybody around me did it. I first lit up my first cigarette at the age of 15 years old and now I'm 21.. Basically, I've been a smoker now for 6 years straight and the effects of the bad habit I have is starting to come in to me.

As you know from my recent articles or blogs. You might notice that I am also a cyclist, being a cyclist means cardio. And when you're doing cardio while you're a smoking cyclist is a bad idea. I started cycling a year ago and I started noticing the bad effects of smoking about a year ago as well. My non-smoker friends can travel distances further than mine and their endurance was longer than mine.

Fortunately, Asia Pacific College is starting this campaign about how and why to avoid smoking, with speakers who personally suffered with the outcomes of cigarette smoking. I was honestly terrified and saddened with the one speaker who had suffered an illness from smoking, he stated that he used to smoke about 2 - 3 packs a day and now he is ill and only talks through a device that's pointed on his throat with a computerized voice in order to talk. And eats by getting mixtures poured down in his throat. He basically has a hole in his neck near the Adam's apple.

Cigarette smoking can cause a lot of deadly illnesses. You might not feel it now because you're still young and strong but once you get old I have noticed that the bad habit will take its toll on you, meaning it can also take your life.

With the growing number of smokers in the parking lot of the campus in Asia Pacific College. I am glad that the school is doing something about it and informing us young students what we are getting ourselves into. I admit, I still haven't stopped smoking after the seminar happened but the thought of stopping the bad habit always comes in to my mind because I do not want to be a burden in my family.

I am currently cutting down with my smoking and actually converting to vaporized smoking (vape)
because I heard a lot of great news and transformation of smokers about it. I honestly cannot stop it all in one go, and I feel vaporized smoking is the best step you can do to stop or lessen the bad habit.

As of now I only smoke about 2 to 5 sticks a day from 10 to 15 sticks a day and I hope to zero this out in the near future. I want to be an example, and I want to be one with the people who can prove that this bad habit can be avoided.

Brakeless bikes!!

Fixies, how do you ride it?!

Fixie, or commonly known as a fixed gear bike. It's a bicycle that has a drivetrain with no free-wheel mechanism. The free-wheel was developed early in the history of bicycle design but the fixed gear bicycle remained the standard track racing design. More recently the "fixie" has become a popular alternative among mainly urban cyclists offering the advantage of compared with the standard multi-geared bicycle.

One of the perceived main attractions of a fixed gear bicycle is low weight. It weighs less than its geared equivalent, giving it more speed and more pedaling results.

Many urban fixed gear riders think brakes are not strictly necessary, and brakeless fixed gear riding has a cult status in some areas. Brakes and their cables are said to add extra bulk to the simple appearance of the fixed gear bicycle. Other riders dismiss riding on roads without brakes as an affectation, based on the image rather than practicality.

Riding brakeless can be very dangerous, and is prohibited by law in many jurisdictions and may jeopardize the chances of a claim in the event of an accident.

It is possible to slow down or stop a fixed gear bike by resisting the turning cranks, and a rider can also lock the rear wheel and skid to slow down or stop. Such a move is initiated by unweighting the rear wheel while in motion by shifting the rider's weight slightly forward and pulling up on the pedals by having your foot strapped in the pedals.

The technique requires practice and using it while cornering is generally considered highly dangerous. Riding fixed is considered by some to encourage a more effective pedaling style, which it is claimed translates into greater efficiency when used fitted with brakes and a freewheel mechanism. It allows for the rider to engage in and practice proper cadence, which is the balance rhythmic flow of pedaling. Enhancing performance for both cyclist and bicycle.

Turn Left, Turn Right

                                                             Turn Left, Turn Right

The story revolves around John, an inspiring violinist and Eve a professional translator. Like millions living in a large city, John and Eve lead lives of solitude. Despite staying in the same apartment building, their paths never cross. One day while walking around a fountain in the park, they finally bump into each other. And it's love at first sight. Unfortunately, a sudden shower cuts the encounter short. They managed to exchange telephone numbers but the rain erased the writings on the papers they both exchanged with.

Basically, the movie is about 2 people who are so meant for each other, but always missed out on meeting each other. The 2 lead actors are gorgeous, and had so much chemistry. They played their characters very well, and they both kept it interesting and simple. And it was done very well without becoming very boring. The cinematography is so stylistically done that every shot is like a postcard.

I love how the supporting characters get's the attention of the viewers. How they act as hindrances to the 2 lovebirds and eventually helping them both find each other. The plot was excellent. There were twists, the intrigues, and a great ending to it as well. Not to much drama going on unlike Hollywood romantic movies. The movie was just plain romantic in a pleasant way. The comedy scenes were not out of place and made it even more fun to watch.

It is a fairy tale for grownups with humor,  sadness, and a bit of slapstick. The symmetry of the parallel events is fun to anticipate, and the anti-symmetry of the two counter-characters adds to the complexity and a foil to the perhaps a bit saccharine of the main plot and characters.

John and Eve are so frustrated about not being able to each other and decide to take jobs abroad. On the day they were both set to leave Taiwan, a strong earthquake strikes, destroying the wall that separates their apartments. And the movie ends with both of them finding each other after the horrific tragedy.

Heneral Luna

                                                   "The Legendary Heneral Luna"
                                                               By: Jerrold Tarog

The movie Heneral Luna which aired sometime in September was a big hit in the Philippine movie industry and also a big contribution for Philippine history. It has made history repeat itself in the form of watching it in a film, and I believe it gave the Filipinos variable information about it because most of us is not even aware of who Heneral Luna is and what he has done for the country.

The setting of the movie took place during the time of the Philippine-American war, and it showed Heneral Luna's heroism, courage, skills and leadership in order to protect our country from the Americans that was trying to conquer it. Although Heneral Luna was not successful with protecting his country, the movie showed how true heroes are made and it displayed an amazing character of the late General.

What is most fascinating about the movie is that it does not place its intent ahead of its craft. The film is beautiful to gaze at. The film is plotted precisely, never really focusing on the larger aspects of history but on the smaller stories that perfectly construct a hard-hitting picture of a revolution built on suspicion and dissent.

John Arcilla is as excellent as Antonio Luna. His performance displays an innate understanding of the character. As a ferocious leader of a seemingly hopeless army, he is rabid and stern. As a pal to his trusted lieutenants, he is unpredictably hilarious, as a son to a devoted mother, he is heartbreakingly dear, echoing the same sentiments he has for his family as if it were for his motherland.

It also showed how Antonio Luna is known as a gifted military strategist, capable of leading an army composed of farmers plucked out nowhere to victory against both Spanish and American foes. And his tragic death paints a picture of what was wrong and what is still wrong in the country. In a way, Luna personifies the fractured hero that define's the country's fractured history. His life, like history, has been severely whitewashed with great deeds brought to the fore while deficiencies in character are veiled out of sight.

Self introduction

"Please allow me to introduce myself!"

Hi! My name is Jacob Tence and I go by the nickname of Jake.. I was born and raised here in this country. And I come from a family of 7, my parents gave birth to 5 wonderful boys and I am the 4th child. Yes, me and my siblings are all boys.. Basically chaos often present in our lovely home back when we were all young and immature.

I believe I was the naughtiest child of us all because I was the one often scolded.. But as of now, I believe that I learned my lessons already and I'm trying to give back all the good things my family has done for me.

I am a current student at Asia Pacific College, taking up Marketing & Advertising. Because I dream of owning a business someday. I kind of business that will hopefully shoulder my expenses for the rest of my life after graduating.

I am a happy person and I love making friends and I also making people laugh because I believe that laughter and joy is the key to living a life worth wile. Aside from making friends and making people laugh. I also love riding a bike because I am also a cyclist. I often spent my weekends riding with my friends to the provinces and just take bus the back home. I am an outgoing person.

When I'm not riding my bike I am probably just at home. I am a family oriented person, basically, for me family comes first over everything. But if I'm not busy riding or bonding with my family I'm probably at our local village computer shop playing video games. I guess those things are my idea of having a good time.

I also love my sleep. During the weekends I just stay in bed and often sleep for a minimum of 12 hours. Sleeping for me is essential and I don't like it when I'm being disturbed during my free time or sleeping time.

And I love eating.. Well everybody loves it. But we all have a different perspective of how we all love it. I can eat anything, I don't judge food. Because food is food. From the highest class of food to the lowest class, I'll eat it just as long as its clean and cooked well.

Well. I guess that wraps up my introduction to you bloggers out there. Thank you for taking the time and I hope you know me a little bit better this time.. Thank you!!
